Oakland Assembly – History...
Located in Oakland, CA, the history of the assembly can be traced with a phone call in October
of 2002, to Nana Addo by Pastor S. Omane-Yeboah, about his intentions to plant a church in the East Bay. After
some initial resistance and much prayer, the church was inaugurated on December 15th 2002, in the living room
of Mrs. Ellen Adejobi by Pastor S. Omane-Yeboah.
It started with six people; Nana Addo, Ellen Adejobi, Mr. & Mrs. Owusu, Cecelia Ardayfio and Cecelia Battle.
After a month, a request was made to the District for someone who would lead this small assembly to new spiritual heights and
also reach out to the community to spread the love and the Gospel of Christ. This request was heeded and it led
to the first presiding elder of the assembly - Elder Osei-Darfour, who steered the assembly to new heights.
As the church grew, there was the need to move from the living room to a bigger place, and on the 9th of
February 2003, the church started having its services in the afternoon at Plymouth Church in Piedmont. Even though,
the place of worship was great, the time for services was not conducive from growth, as it coincided
with the work schedules of many members. So, in April 2003, the church moved again and started having its morning services
at one of the studios in the city building at the Alice Arts Center, Oakland.
After 2 years, and the church still growing, it was decided it was time to have a permanent place of worship, so in June 2005
the church moved to it's current place of worship, on 4519 Martin Luther King Way.
God has been good and He continues to show himself faithful. There has been numerical growth, but most importantly, the body of Christ
has grown in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. From a humble number of six commitment members, we are now blessed with
a total of 100 members(and still growing), a District Pastor, 2 Elders, 2 Deacons, 2 Deaconesses and District status. We are excited about the great things
God has in store for us.
